About the Summit
Why are we discussing Assistive Technology in a focussed manner?
- Based on recent estimates, over 1 billion people worldwide are impacted by disability, the number doubling over the next 10 years. About 80% of them live in developing countries.
- On the other hand, the elderly population in India is one of the fastest-growing in the world. At 110 million, India has the second-largest global population of ageing citizens yet very few of them have access to basic infrastructure and healthcare facilities.
- Today only 1 in 10 people in need globally have access to assistive technology due to high costs and a lack of awareness, availability, trained personnel, policy and financing.
